Co-Curricular Classes

  • From Transitional Kindergarten to 8th grade, our drama co-curricular class immerses students into the captivating world of theater, where they discover and nurture their talents. Through the process of memorizing lines, honing their performances, and participating in enriching experiences tailored for each grade level, students embark on a fulfilling theatrical adventure.

Beyond acting and performance, our middle school drama curriculum explores technical theater and design, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of stagecraft. From lighting techniques to crafting set designs, students explore theater production with creativity and passion. Our drama class empowers students to shine both on stage and behind the scenes, fostering a deep appreciation for the magic of theater and the arts.

  • From Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to 8th grade, our music co-curricular class takes students on an enriching journey of musical discovery. In TK and Kindergarten, the focus is on keeping a steady beat and moving to the music, and students use a variety of rhythm instruments to aid this journey, including maracas/shakers, triangles, tambourines, and Boomwhackers, sparking their interest for rhythm and melody.

In first and second grade, students begin the study of solfeg, or the musical alphabet, and learn how melodies and rhythms layer to create music, adding xylophones to their existing instrumental repertoire. In third and fourth grade, the students perform a wide variety of ostinato accompaniments, as well as embrace the melodic beauty of recorders, while fifth and sixth graders strum the strings of ukuleles. For seventh and eighth grade, the focus is on composition, or writing music, and they use all instruments previously studied, plus add in some piano.

Additionally, our music class not only offers instrumental proficiency but a holistic approach to musical education. Students explore the lives and work of renowned composers, such as the iconic Jazz legend Louis Armstrong, in our Composer Corners. They develop an appreciation for music's rich history and diverse cultural influences through music appreciation and history. Students explore the vibrant tapestry of world music and discover the rhythmic beats and soul-stirring melodies that echo across continents and centuries. Music classes for our dual language immersion students are bilingual, though in all grades students learn to sing songs in a wide variety of languages, continuing their exploration of music from a wide variety of cultures. And as we are a Catholic school, students also learn the songs that will be sung at mass for each liturgical season so that they can be active and enthusiastic participants in the weekly liturgy.

  • From TK to 8th grade, our students participate in Physical Education (PE). Students engage in weekly PE hour-long sessions, where they not only have fun but also enhance their physical fitness and skills.

  • From 1st to 8th grade, our Spanish co-curricular class provides students with the opportunity to develop proficiency in the Spanish language. In partnership with IES, we provide students with weekly hour-long sessions dedicated to building the foundation in the Spanish language and enriching students’ linguistic and cultural understanding.
