Biography

Dr. Emily Kupitz is originally from central Wisconsin, the wonderful land of trees, lakes, and cows, and she earned her Bachelor of Music Education there. While she did an instrumental emphasis, she is certified to teach 4K-12 music education. She then spent 6 years in Tempe, Arizona, earning her Masters and DMA, Doctor of Musical Arts, in oboe performance. After a brief 4-year jaunt back in the homeland, she landed in Santa Clara for her husband's job at SLAC. 

St. Lawrence was her family's first home here in the Bay. With no family anywhere close, the school and parish community were very important. They started off in 2018 with Benji in PreK with Mrs. M. and Dr. Kupitz working as music director for the Parish. Starting in 2019, she became the choir director for the school. After seeing some hard musical years through the pandemic, where school mass music continued despite its many challenges, and leaving her position as music director for the parish, she became the music teacher in October of 2022.

Music is Dr. Kupitz's passion and with now two children at St. Lawrence (Benji, 4th and Eli, 1st) she wanted to make sure that they and their classmates received a quality music education. She believes in the power of music to change our lives and in the essential part music plays in brain development and education.

Dr. Kupitz has also worked as a musical theater music director and opera coach and infuses her love of that into her Christmas programs every year. When she's not at St. Lawrence teaching or volunteering, she can be found at CSU-East Bay as their oboe professor, performing with many different groups around the Bay Area, or teaching privately. In the limited time where she is not doing one of those things, she loves going on adventures with her children, reading, and watching her beloved Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks.
